Working at Heights with Rich M1EZW

Last weekend saw Rich M1EZW being kept busy at the QTH of Dan M1EZU. It saw the installation of a base 4m 70mhz antenna for Dan to join in the fun on the Sunday Night 4m Moonraker Net.

We caught up with Rich at the Club on Tuesday and asked him a few questions:

Q.  How long did it take to install and was it an easy job?

A. The holes were pre drilled and it was just 2 brackets that needed to go up. It took only about an hour because the antenna was already on its pole and the coax was connected. Dan had the antenna on a tripod and I just relocated it.

Q. How is Dan finding the antenna’s performance compared to when it was on the tripod?

A.  Its definitely better and less noise. It’s at least 10 feet higher  than before and working really well.

Q.  Does it give you the incentive to use 4m more often?

A. Yes, there’s a good crowd of people on 4m and I’ve been using it a lot more and chatting to Dan on 70.425 during weekdays.

Thanks Rich for the insight and good DX on 4m.

Here are a couple more pictures from the install:

Here’s Rich ascending the ladder complete with 4m antenna !

What a tidy installation and some great antennas over at Dan’s QTH. Big thanks to Dan M1EZU for his permission to publish the photos.
