Becoming a radio amateur FAQ

Chippenham & District Amateur Radio Club is affiliated to the RSGB and we welcome all Radio hobbyists and yes we do welcome Short Wave listeners, AM/FM/SSB CB, 11m DX and PMR 446 enthusiasts.  Your hobby is our hobby too.

Welcome New Members 11/06/2024

A warm welcome to new members Danny and John.

Danny and John enjoy 11m and PMR 446Mhz operation. We welcome Radio enthusiasts from all aspects of the RF Spectrum and it’s good to have them both on board.

Infact we are planning some 11m CB Radio operating during the summer months, with equipment testing and  AM/FM and SSB modes focusing of course on the CEPT EU and UK 27/81 bands but conscious other band plans exist.

Should be a great evening when we look at the 11m Band and what it can offer.

RSGB Presentation Success

A super evening had by all.

We welcomed Simon G4WQG our RSGB Region 10 Rep to the Club yesterday evening.

Simon delivered a frank and open presentation about our National Society which was very well received and prompted some lively debate.

It was a fascinating evening and it demonstrated how the Society is effectively run on the goodwill and determination of volunteers who are all Radio Amateurs. Yes there are full time personnel at RSGB HQ but the majority of RSGB Reps you see at Rallies or call for help and assistance are unpaid volunteers who like us “love” our hobby and show this by sparing their time in support of it!

A big thank you to Simon for coming and sharing a fascinating insight in to the RSGB and I even think he recruited several new members – Well done.
